JOHN FEWINGS

WHAT YOU SAY

 THINKING SKILLS

Throughout his career, John has been keen to develop challenging materials that will engage young people and help them to maximise their learning potential.  Built upon the foundation of these resources, Johns training sessions are inspiring but eminently practical.

AIM

To explore what is meant by thinking skills and to investigate methods whereby we might encourage their development within the classroom.

  • What is thinking?  What happens when we think?  How do we learn to think?

  • What do we mean by "Thinking skills" and why do we need to promote them?

  • Bloom's taxonomy and National Curriculum thinking skills.

  • "Brain-snacking" and how you can use it to feed hungry minds.

  • "Now you're talking" - the importance of dialogue in developing thinking skills.

  • How can teachers encourage thinking?  That is the question.

  • Edward de Bono's Thinking Hats

  • How to promote a "thinking classroom".

  • How to create a climate that fosters creative thinking.

"Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world."

Nelson Mandela

"Vertical thinking is digging the same hole deeper.  Lateral thinking is trying again elsewhere."

Edward de Bono
