Effective Thinking Challenge
A stimulating and enjoyable day in the form of a competition in which teams of pupils seek to solve a succession of “thinking challenges”, each designed to utilise a specific problem-solving strategy.
Challenges may be linguistic, logical, visual, “hands-on” or require a flash of creative inspiration.
After each group of challenges, pupils are encouraged to analyse why certain approaches proved more effective, thereby being introduced to a diverse range of problem-solving strategies.
Although the Effective Thinking Challenge can be condensed into a half-day session, the full day allows more opportunity for reflection – as well as allowing pupils time to devise their own challenges.
