Eating snails

What do snails prefer to eat?

Make sure you wash your hands after handling the snails.

PLAN

How many snails will you use?

Will you use one type of snail or different types?

What about the size of the snails?

How many kinds of food will you use?

I WILL NEED

Some snails!

Various "food" items (e.g.: apple, banana, cheese, grass, lemon slices, lettuce leaf, petals, etc.)

Pencil & paper.

I MAY NEED

You could use a shallow container - such as an old washing-up bowl or baking tray.

GOOD IDEA - You will find snails more

easily after rain or in a wet garden

(... so get the hose out!)

FAIR TEST

How will you arrange the food for the snails?

For how long will you collect data?

PREDICTION

Which foods do you think the snails will prefer?

PRACTICAL ACTIVITY

What did you do?

What did you observe?

Can you explain this?

Did you encounter any problems?

What did you do to overcome these?

COLLECT

DATA

You could keep a simple tally chart.

ANALYSE

DATA

Which foods were most popular?  Are there any similarities between these foods?

PRESENT

FINDINGS

What is the best way to show what you did?

Would a diagram make things clearer?

What is the best way to show your data and your findings?

EVALUATE

INVESTIGATION

If you were going to do this investigation again, what would you do to improve it?
