THE RULE

If the number of pennies divides evenly by 4 - share the pennies between the four sides.

If the number of pennies divides evenly by 2 (but not by 4) - place a penny on each of two opposite corners - and share the rest (if there are any) between the four sides.

If the number of pennies is an odd number - that number will either be ONE LESS than a multiple of 4 or ONE MORE than a multiple of 4.

If it is ONE LESS - place a penny on a corner - then a penny on each of the two "opposite" sides - then share any extra pennies evenly (if there are any).

If it is ONE MORE - place a penny on each of 3 corners - then place pennies each side of the remaining corner - then share any extra pennies evenly (if there are any).
