Danny and Derek were watching a magician at their friend's birthday party. The magician placed three matchboxes end-to-end on the table. Holding each of the end boxes, the magician then lifted all three boxes in a horizontal line. Then, to the amazement of most of the audience, the magician let go of the matchbox in his right hand. All three of the matchboxes floated horizontally in the air as the magician gently lowered them to the table.
"That's easy!" boasted Danny, "Anyone can do that." "I bet you can't," responded Derek. "Of course I could!" claimed Danny, "Bring three matchboxes to school tomorrow and I'll show you how it's done." Sure enough, at school the next day, using three ordinary matchboxes that Derek brought in, Danny did perform the trick.
How did he do it?
